I've used electric shavers for over 30 years and this is the best one yet. My last razor was a Norelco. I read many reviews on the Braun shavers and was a little concerned about the initial price and the cost of the cleaning fluid. I think with the rebate it makes the pintail cost reasonable and you shouldn't worry about the cleaning fluid. I charge and clean my shaver once a week. I reseal the cleaning fluid after each use and after month I've only used about 10% of the solution. The shaver gives me a good shave. My wife thinks it's not as noisy as the Norelco.

I've had my Braun 5510 for many years and it always gave a very close shave so I decided to get this shaver because it was ranked 1st by a recent Consumer Reports that I have. I also got the Remington MicroScreen MS2-390 for my girlfriend because it was ranked 2nd in the same report. Every time I used the more expensive Braun Series 5 590cc, I would use the Remington after that to see if it would get anything else and it did. The Remington gave a noticeably much closer shave. I want to hear the hairs going through the screen and you do with the Remington at only 1/3 the price. I was stumped until I tried something. I had some leftover replacement blades for my Braun 5510 and decided to replace one of those blades with the one that came with the Braun Series 5 590cc and the difference was totally amazing. It shaved just as close as the Remington. You can see the difference in the blades by looking at them on the ends, but they both fit perfectly. Make the change and you'll see the difference. I also agree with an earlier comment about the cleaning system being a rip-off! Just use the brush and a can of compressed air once in while and you'll be fine. I might try the cleaning system once a month or longer, but right now I'm satisfied.

If you have not used an electric best foil shaver before or used a rotary shaver then it will take some getting used to this one. At first your sensitive skin might turn reddish and become irritated but this will subside as your skin adapts to it. It can provide a reasonably close shave comparable to a razor blade but you often have to target specific areas over and over to get the desired shave. The cleaning solution is a great way to store and charge your shaver and it seems to do an excellent job of cleaning the shaver too. You can also clean the shaver manually and instructions are included to show you how to do this so using the cleaning stand is not mandatory but I would recommend you do so every now and then. Overall a great shaver, certainly better than the Philips Cool skin I owned several years back. You could save yourself a few bucks if you get the 570 over this one as the only difference seems to be the cleaning LED on the shaver. Better yet go for the 550 or 560 if you don't think you need the cleaning stand.

Best electric razor I've ever owned. Does a fantastic job. Feels smooth, none of the painful razor burns you get with cheap eletric razors. Close clean shave, the powerful but quiet motor works well. I would have given Braun 5 stars except for the costs of the cleaning solution refills. To save money I'm doing what others have suggested, wash the plastic tanks and refill with alcohol.

I use wood grain alcohol (the type used for the little smokeless fireplaces) with a dab of McCormick orange or lemon extract. As a bonus my Braun came with the pocket razor for free, nice for traveling. Great shaver. Gives a good close shave with no irritation. I like the self-cleaning capability.
