After reading the glowing reviews I decided to go for one of these. As others mentioned it comes rather "overpackaged" but once removed from the box it seems like a nice unit in the hand. However my first sensitive shave was a disappointment - it shaved but it wasn't "amazing", just average.
I was feeling like I had wasted my money but continued to use it over the next week and then the magic happened - as my beard got used to the shaver it shaved closer and closer. Now it is without a doubt the best shaver I have ever used - truly as close as a blade. So even if you are used to using Brauns (as I was) you need to give your face a little time to get used to this different shaver - the wait is worth it.
Closer Than A Norelco And Faster
Closest Electric Shaver

I've used Norelco shavers for 25 years and never really had an issue with them. I had read somewhere that foil shavers irritate some people. Razors blade shavers leave my face a bloody mess no matter how careful I am. So, I just stuck with Norelco as they did an adequate job. Shaving is something I have to do, not want to do. An autopilot, ho hum, every morning, chore. However, when the batteries started dying on my last Norelco after only 5 years, the other models have lasted much longer, I decided to try something else. My sons have been telling me for years how much they liked the Braun and they didn't find them irritating. When I started looking at Braun, I discovered the Pulsonic uses the same technology as the Sonicare toothbrush, which I like. The ratings looked good but yikes, the cost! I debated with myself about this a couple of days then decided, hey, Christmas was right around the corner, and I have been a good boy, plus Amazon would keep me out of the Christmas crowds and shipping was free.
My time has to be worth something, right? Less than a week later, I close shaved one side of my face with the Norelco (the blades are only a couple of months old) and the other with the Pulsonic and asked my wife which side was smoother. She chose the Pulsonic side, which didn't surprise me because it felt much closer to me also. I've also been pleasantly surprised to find shaving doesn't take as long as it did with the Norelco! After three weeks, I couldn't be more pleased. The Pulsonic shaves much closer than the Norelco AND shaves faster. I can't speak for other Braun models, but I would certainly recommend the Pulsonic. OK, maybe I'm still trying to justify the cost, but cleaning is thorough and couldn't be more easy; something I often neglected with the Norelco.

I've been using Norelco models, which include the 6885XL, for over 20 years. By and large, they were all very disappointing. By comparison, the Braun Pulsonic 9595CC with LCD is orders of magnitude better. Shaving with 6885XL, I'd often end up with fair-sized sections of wholly uncut hair and of the hair it did cut, it wasn't terribly close. It almost looked as if I didn't shave! The Braun just wipes my face with the Norelco heads, so to speak. It doesn't leave spots, period. And it's close across my entire face. So close, I just feel skin on my cheeks. Yes, for the first time, I think I can say that electric shaving "is there".
It's reached the point of doing the job it's set out to do. I think one of the reasons why eletric Norelco models fail so miserably is that while their lift and cut system was patented, what actually happens is that the metal foil over the razor mats some of the hair down and the blades never get to see it. The Braun takes a different approach. The centerpiece vibrates like a little jack hammer and I'm surmising this causes the hairs to jump up tall, and the trailing half of the razor reaches them before they can bend back down. This means it does most of the work as opposed to the leading half (until you move in the other direction and their roles reverse). I don't know if this is true, but it's my guess behind the engineering logic. But I do know that it works!
